National Contact Point Information Day: health, demographic change and well-being

On November 18, 2014. Wieslawa Gryncewicz and Maja Leszczyńska from CC S4S team participated in the Information Day: Health, demographic change and well-being, Horizon 2020. The consultation took place in the National Contact Point in Warsaw.

The meeting concerned research grants opportunities for projects relating to the health and welfare of the Horizon 2020. Moreover the Polish case study projects in the 7th Framework Programme were presented. Particularly important was the presentation of the AAL – Active Assisted Living Joint Programme, under which in the years 2014-2017 ActGoGate Department is implementing the project, and the meeting with the coordinator of this program NCBiR – Mr. Wojciech Piotrowicz.


“Together for the border” Conference was held in Jelenia Gora on 2 October 2014

During the conference, CC S4S team members took part in a meeting with representatives of the Office of the Marshal of Lower Silesia, Saxony Ministry of Internal Affairs and the director of the hospital in Jelenia Gora. The meeting concerned the areas and directions of cooperation in the area of e-health and the joint participation of research projects.

The main points of the conference were discussion panels: the first summarizing the results of the project “Together for borderline Lower Silesia – Saxony”, the second focuses on the achievements and challenges of the border in the context of 15 years of cooperation.

During the conference, CC S4S team members took part in a meeting with representatives of the Office of the Marshal of Lower Silesia, Saxony Ministry of Internal Affairs and the director of the hospital in Jelenia Gora. The meeting concerned the areas and directions of cooperation in the area of e-health and the joint participation of research projects.

EHST 2015 will be held in Rhodes

EHST 2015 will be held in Rhodes on 17-18 September 2015    

Professor Maciaszek from CC S4S team has become the Chairman of the Programme Committee of the 9th International Symposium on e-Health Services and Technologies (EHST 2015). EHST focuses on e-Health services and their related technologies, with a particular stress on the modeling, delivery and use of complex e-Health technology-driven service-provisioning systems. Fundamental challenges related to e-Health services are to be addressed.

In 2015, EHST will be held in Rhodes, Greece  on 17-18 September 2015.

The symposium is organized by the international institute IICREST. Cooperating organizations are: AUTH– Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, CTIT– the U-Twente Centre for Telematics and Information Technology, and AMAKOTA Ltd.


Independent Living Meeting in Leipzig

On 26-28 December the CC S4S team was on a visit to Leipzig, where we took part in 3-days workshops with our partners from University of Leipzig, University of St. Gallen and University of Kassel. Our teams have been working together for several years in the context of joint research projects. Currently, cooperation concerns in particular the Independent Living project, the design and development of the service management platform and work on the ActGo-Gate project.

During 2-days workshop members of all teams gave speeches. The discussion was mainly focused on following topics:

  • current and new research projects
  • approaching research programs and related perspective
  • the experience gained during the Independent Living pilots and other running projectsthe possibility of gaining potential customers
  • directions of development of the various functions of IL platform
  • quality improvement of IL software and streamline the coordinated development and testing process
  • presentation of feature ideas
  • specification of different features / functionalities

The subject of the discussion was also the ActGo-Gate project in which both teams are involved. Our team was represented by Leszek Maciaszek, Wieslawa Gryncewicz, Maja Leszczyńska and Karol Łopaciński. Their presentation concerned the polish contribution to IL project. They presented our propositions and perspectives of research that we plan. In addition, they presented the key assumptionsrelated to the participation in the ActGo-Gate project.


Our participation and appearance in Lower Silesia – SaxonyInnovation Forum on Active and Healthy Ageing

On 22 May 2014 members of CC S4S team took part in the important international conference active and healthy Ageing. The conference was organized by the Marshall Office of Lower Silesia.

The objective of the conference is to present initiatives and innovative approaches that are suited to tackle problems linked to demographic change. The conference aims at enabling elderly people to stay in their own home for as long as possible and to properly support chronically ill patients, especially in rural areas. Another objective of the conference is to enhance cooperation between regions and institutions that are concerned with active and healthy ageing. In this context, the cooperation between the Marshall Office of Lower Silesia and the Saxon State Ministry of Social Affairs and Consumer Protection is going to be introduced.

During the conference Tomasz Skalniak from CC S4S team presented his speech. The presentation concerned Appointment Coordination Systems of Independent Living platform.

The first edition of the Cyber Security Management post-graduate studies has just started

In mid-April launched the first edition of the Cyber Security Management post-graduate studies. Studies are very popular among graduates of information technology fields of study and specialists who want to become managers of cyber security in today’s business organizations.

Studies are organized by Institute of Business Informatics and CC S4S team at Wroclaw University of Economics in cooperation with IBM Poland and IBM New York Cyber Security Innovation.

The aim of the Cyber Security Management post-graduate studies is to provide actual knowledge and practical managerial skills in the field of information systems security management, in particular risks associated with cyber space in which organizations operate today.

Studies are dedicated to graduates of information technology fields of study and specialists who want to become managers of cyber security in today’s business organizations. It should be pointed out that the studies are focused on training managers who want to be also experts in the field of Cyber Security.

Currently we are planning a second edition of the study. Recruitment will begin in June.

SS4SI Symposium on FedSCIS 2014 Conference

The First International Symposium on Service Systems for Social Innovation (SS4SI 2014) co-organized by CC S4S team will take place on 7 – 10 September 2014 in Warsaw, Poland. This event will be the significant part of this year’s edition of Federated Conference on Computer Science and Information Systems (FedCSIS 2014).

The growing importance of services in the modern economy has caused an increasing demand for research activities that will focus on the dedicated theories, methods and tools for designing software systems and applications supporting provision of ICT service solutions in general, and specifically for social innovation.

The term ‘social innovation‘ incorporate all kind of concepts, ideas, activities and tools that effect an invention that addresses a particular social need and stimulating economic growth.

In the age of information and massive connectivity, the main challenges of the developed world become delivering means and infrastructure for ICT-supported lifestyle management and providing innovative services to different groups of the society, tailored to their individual needs and demands.

Focusing on the changing needs of consumers in the digital age, the SS4SI Symposium will cover three broad subject areas that is: Social Innovation, Services for Society as well as Service Systems and Applications.

Recruitment for the Cyber ​​Security Management post-graduate studies has just begun

Studies are organized by Institute of Business Informatics and CC S4S team at Wroclaw University of Economics in cooperation with IBM Poland and IBM New York Cyber Security Innovation.

The aim of the Cyber Security Management post-graduate studies is to provide actual knowledge and practical managerial skills in the field of information systems security management, in particular risks associated with cyber space in which organizations operate today.

Studies are dedicated to graduates of information technology fields of study and specialists who want to become managers of cyber security in today’s business organizations. It should be pointed out that the studies are focused on training managers who want to be also experts in the field of Cyber Security.

The courses emphasize the managerial aspects of Cyber Security, including risk management and compliance, security governance, security incidents management, law and ethics with relation to cyber security. The focus is on the managerial context so that students can progress their careers through organisations and can aim at management positions. The technical aspects of Cyber Security are also explained, including computer security, applications security, cryptography, security in cloud computing, security of network architectures etc.

The Cyber Security Management post-graduate studies are conducted by highly qualified professionals, specialists in the area  of information systems security. Many classes enlist the collaboration of IBM and a number of certified specialists and experts in the field of Cyber Security technology and management. The studies are dedicated (predominantly, but not exclusively) to the graduates with a Computing or Information Systems background .They are designed for those wishing to develop a career as Cyber Security professionals and take a leading managerial role in an organisation dependent upon data and information communication technology.

Workshops with our partners from University of St. Gallen

At the beginning of December the CC S4S team hosted in Wroclaw the representatives of Competence Center Independent Living from the University of St. Gallen, Our teams have been working together for several years in the context of joint research projects. During 2-days workshop members of both teams gave speeches and discussed in particularthe Independent Living Project, the design and development of the service management platform and work on the ActGo-Gate project.

On 2nd and 3rd December the CC S4S team hosted in Wroclaw the representatives of Competence Center Independent Living from the University of St. Gallen – prof. Hubert Öesterle, dr. Philipp Osl and dr. Philipp Menschner. Our teams have been working together for several years in the context of joint research projects. Currently, cooperation concerns in particular the Independent Living Project, the design and development of the service management platform and work on the ActGo-Gate project.

During 2-days workshop members of both teams gave speeches. The discussion was mainly devoted the development of the Independent Living platform (Appointment Coordination System – ACS). The presentations regarded following topics:

  1. Reminders and notifications in the three layers (logical, backend and frontend) of the ACS – presented by Jan Słowik (CC S4S)
  2. Integration with calendar systems (functionality, types of integration, costs, proposition of software to integrate with, methodology of integration, problems)– presented by Adam Pyka (CC S4S)
  3. Informal help exchange – presented by Manuel Eisele, Philipp Menschner (CC IL)
  4. ERP Integration (motivation, conception in the context of ACS, proposition of solutions, opportunities and challenges) – presented by Manuel Eisele (CC IL)
  5. Ad-hoc appointment coordination without registration – presented by Philipp Osl, Hubert Oesterle
  6. New appointment coordination processes (motivation, possible ways of realization: how to add time frames, periodic orders, first-come-first-serve and semi-automation, consequences) – presented by Grzegorz Biziel

Moreover during the meeting were discussed the issues of the next steps in the Independent Living project and the new locations of ACS tests and implementations.

The subject of the discussion was also the ActGo-Gate project in which both teams are involved.

The seminar Social Innovation from A to Z was organized by the Wroclaw Research Centre EIT+. The discussion was a part of a research project TEPSIE which is funded under the 7th Framework Programme.  Our representatives took part in discussion about social innovation, presented our achievements in this context, made valuable contacts etc.
