Wroclaw University of Economics is a partner in an international consortium that has received a grant to finance the project as part of the sixth international competition: The Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme (AAL JP).

The Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme (AAL JP) is a research-and-development initiative, born in 2008, involving 23 countries (20 EU countries and 3 non-EU countries).  The general AAL JP goal is enhancing the quality of life of older people and strengthening the industrial base in Europe through the use of ICT. Therefore, the AAL JP is an activity that operates in the field of services and actions to enable the active ageing among the population. Total investment to co-finance Research & Development & Innovation projects over this period was planned at minimally € 600 Mil contributed in the ratio of about 25% from the 7th Framework Programme of the EU, 25% from partner states and 50% from programme participants.

The title of our project is: „Active Retiree and Golden Workers Gate” (ActGo-Gate).

Its objective is to design an ICT based platform supporting entrepreneurship, self-fulfillment and social participation for golden workers and active retirees. Implemented project will enable creating a platform model of services exchange among members of local communities. Besides the important project’s effect will be the proposal of information system supporting its operation.

The structure of information system which allow the work of ActGo-Gate platform require creating three basic modules:

  • The “Serve the Community Module” that is an informal services for local community module which allows activation the local community by offering and sharing of informal support services to other community members. It is about time banks or the e-banking system for alternative payment methods basing on the mutual exchange of support (“barter services”).
  • The “Flexible Occupation Module” brings together local service providers with golden workers and active retirees, who want to engage in part-time jobs or to offer their services for a fee for the local community members.
  • The “Get Involved with Organizations Module” aims to bring together people from local communities for social projects e.g. as part of corporate volunteering programs.

Wroclaw University of Economics in Wroclaw and in particular Competence Center Services for Society (CC S4S) research team will be actively involved in works related to the development implementation of system supporting ActGo-Gate platform. In addition, CC S4S will deal with the testing and evaluation of platform’s functional analysis as well as co-create the business model of its practical use. Important tasks for our team will concern works associated with the project management, its promotion and popularization on the research and business practice forums.

The project has got the positive substantive assessment from the European Union representatives. The second step is the financial negotiations between various consortium partners and relevant national research donors. In our case, such an institution is National Centre for Research and Development (NCBiR).

Currently we are near to complete the works on detailed description of the tasks, estimation the budget as well as identifying the structure of the team that will implement the project.

CC S4S team plans to start work on the ActGo-Gate project at the beginning of the second quarter of 2014.
